5 Fun Apps for Creative People

There were a few questions from my post on documenting the everyday moments with your phone. Mostly, people wanted to know what apps I, as a creative, use most often – for both business and pleasure. šŸ™‚

Without further ado, here are 5 apps I use frequently and have a lot of fun with. (…with which I have a lot of fun. I know someone out there will be bothered by my ending a sentence with a preposition. I do it sometimes. Rules are made to be broken, though, I say.)

Word Swag
WS has a library of images you can use to create visuals for your Instagram feed, Pinterest, or blog. Like this one I used below. I did not make that layflat, but it sure looks good! šŸ˜‰

VSCO
There’s a whole thing about “VSCO girls” now and I think it may have originated with this app of presets, but don’t confuse the two. I am in no way, shape, or form a VSCO girl. (sksksksksk) haha

I simply love the ways in which the presets and the intuitive tools that help make an image I took with my phone POP.

Mextures & Lens Distortions
Both of these apps allow you to layer effects on an image. You can put creative light effects, glitter, and emulsions/grunge onto photos. Super fun.

Waterlogue
Take any photo an make it into an illustration or watercolor painting. Make the ordinary more than ordinary. I mostly just use this one for fun. šŸ˜‰

Retromatic
Another app I use for fun. I often use it to take photos of my kids and put funny things they’ve said into an image. And my crazies can come up with some HILARIOUS stuff. Nothing funny here, but my cute angel looks so fancy with her crown. šŸ˜‰

There are other photo apps I like, too, like Snapseed, A Color Story, Quickshot, and Pixaloop. They do similar things to these I’ve listed here, so find what you like best and use it. Everyone has preferences and it’s no different with apps.

I may do a post of creative video apps soon, too. šŸ™‚

Now, go and be creative! Make something of yours!
